My Approach
GSRD Affirmative
Gender, Sexual and Relationship Diversity (GSRD) is an all-encompassing term, used to include the different shades that can feel left behind by more specific acronyms like LGBTQIA+.

GSRD affirmative therapy looks to help everyone, regardless of gender identity, sexuality, sexual practices, kinks/fetishes or relationship styles. We are all different as human beings and these are all parts that make up who we are. They might not be why you are coming to therapy, but an affirmative therapist appreciates the context that these parts of you give to whatever difficulty you may be facing.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is a type of therapy that looks at your thoughts, feelings and behaviours and helps to change some of these to manage your problems.

A key part of this is identifying the negative thinking patterns that you may feel trapped in, helping you to break free from these and to feel better.

CBT focuses on equipping you with practical tools to address current problems in your life and relieve the symptoms you’re facing, before making links to your past and how your beliefs started.

Integrative approach
Integrative therapy is a dynamic approach that combines various therapeutic techniques to meet the unique needs of each individual. Our therapists utilise a diverse range of therapy models, including Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Person-Centred Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Compassion-Focused Therapy, all rooted in trauma awareness and informed by Internal Family Systems (IFS).
This flexibility helps make therapy work with you. Therapy is a space for you and your unique needs, and an Integrative approach means sessions are not a 'one-size-fits-all'.
About me
Hello, and thank you for taking a look at The Queer Couch.

I am Martyn (he/him), an affirmative, integrative therapist working in Glasgow.

I set up The Queer Couch as I wanted to provide a non-judgmental and compassionate space for individuals of all flavours to work through their difficulties. Therapy is deeply personal and challenging but it can also be freeing.
Being GSRD affirmative, I want to ensure that clients feel welcomed and heard regardless of their gender, sexuality, sexual practices or relationship style. Therapy should never be a place where you feel the need to watch what you say or educate your own therapist about who you are. Therapy is time for you.
Whether or not gender and sexuality are why you are seeking therapy, they are important parts of who you are and as an affirmative therapist, I can appreciate how these parts of you can influence and shape your life.

If you think you would like to begin therapy and feel that The Queer Couch might be a good fit, please get in touch.
